Get Quiet

Day 4 – #BloomTrueBootCamp

Meditation is something that I would like to invite into my life more.

Close your eyes and breath
Let the thoughts flow
Don’t force the quite
Empty your mind and relax
It will come
Breathe and relax

Gather your Supplies

Day three of #BloomTrueBootCamp

I am an art supply addict! If I need to go into an art shop I can never buy just what I need, I always come away with more. For example, last month I needed a tube of magenta paint. I came out with a tube of magenta, purple and turquoise paint, 2 packs of Dewent Graphik line painters and a sketchbook! DOH. I wish clothes shopping was that easy.

New supplies

I store my cheap paints in one storage box and my tubes in another, Liquitex Acrylic heavy body is my favorite choice of acrylic paint. This type of paint is great to use on my Gelli printing plate. I have lots if other boxes and drawers with other art supplies in. Looking around my room I think it might be time to sort a few boxes out.

At the moment I enjoy using this box of paints. I have had these for years and years and they come out to play every now and again. I have no idea what they are but they are great to use. I love using gesso as it is great for coving things up and I like using spray ink for quick coverage. Another favorite of mine are the Neocolor II watersoluble wax crayons. I like to cut my own stencils and I store these in a ring binder in clear sleeves, that way they are easy to use.

Before I start a new painting or art session I tidy my desk, but it doesn’t stay tidy for long!

Prepare your space

Day two of #BloomTrueBootCamp

I have my own studio, I have a desk, an easel and a couple of bookshelves, and lots of boxes of different kinds. It is just perfect and I love going into my space. The lighting is great, as it has a good-sized window and at night I use my Anglepoise® lamp with a daylight bulb.

Desk and easel

My altar is in my studio and my room is just big enough to do sun salutations (yoga). I am so grateful that I have my own space, I can leave all my art supplies out, listen to my music and burn incense.

Sacred Space

I can remember a time at art college that I didn’t have a desk to work at. So my Dad cut me a piece of MDF and I put it over the arms of an arm-chair and did my work that way. It was a bit restricting and I had to be careful if I had a pot of water on it, but it did the job. When we lived in a flat in London we had a kitchen/diner/lounge/studio! My desk was in the bay window, it was a bit of a squash but it worked. I also spent 4 months in a van touring New Zealand, I had one sketchbook and a pencil-case of supplies.

If you want to set up a space it is always possible, like Flora said get creative.

Invite the Sacred

Day one of #BloomTrueBootCamp

Today for the Bloom True Boot Camp I cleaned and tidied my sacred space/altar. I cleaned my crystals and picked new ones for the month. While I cleaned I listen to music that someone had created specifically for space cleaning. I used lemon essential oil in my burner, lemons are uplifting, refreshing and they aid concentration. I picked a new card from my ‘Ask and it will Happen’ pack it says ‘ Pay attention to how you feel’. I thought that was quite fitting as Flora talks a lot about intuition and positive affirmations.

Sacred Space

I have also brought out my gratitude journal, this is to remind me to write in it daily. I am going to keep it on my altar to remind me to record my gratitude.

Gratitude journal

I have been meaning to write out some affirmations so I can see them daily for a while now. I finally picked out three and I have written these on to my calendar. This hangs directly opposite me at my desk.

  • Creativity is coming to me easily and effortlessly
  • I am healthy and balanced
  • The more I receive, the more I have to give

Breathing is something thing that I have noticed recently that at times I breathe rather shallow. It is something that I will work on, as it has not been an issue for me in the past. Deep breathes are good.

Smile! I smile at people and I am glad that people here on the IOW smile back. People in London don’t.

Make ART! My sketchbooks are full of art but I find it hard to finish pieces of art. This is something I need to work on as I have 16 unfinished pieces of work!

I am looking forward to sharing tomorrows #BloomTrueBootCamp day.

August Archive

For August I did something different. I looked back into my photography archive and joined in with Susannah Conway’s ‘August Break’. 2014 is my 10 year anniversary of having a digital camera. I have been wanting to look back into my archives to celebrate my 10 years of digital! So Susannah Conway ‘August Break’ has gave me a great opportunity. So I put together a collection of photos that correspond with the prompts. It was great fun looking back over the last 10 years but it has also made me realise that having photos printed out is something I need to do more of. Otherwise photographs just sit in my hard-drive and I never look at them!

Creative Inspiration

It’s the start of a new month tomorrow…and with this a couple of monthly challenges have caught my eye.

The first one is ‘inspired writing’ with Stacy it is 30 days of writing. Stacy will be sending out daily emails of inspiration and prompts. Here is what Stacy says about her ‘inspired writing’ group –

The fire and earth energy of Leo and Virgo will have this group focused on recommitting to your writing. Have a blog, website, screenplay, or book that you are neglecting? Have an idea for a creative venture that you want to get out of your head (and heart) and down on paper? This month is the time to get on that shit.’

I took part in Stacy’s writing group ’40 love letters in 40 days’. Stacy is creative and inspiring, her words are soft and gentle but strong enough to give you the push that you need. There is a FB group where there is a great bunch of people; all wanting to write and to get and give support. Click here to sign up.

I have also signed up for the Bloom True Boot Camp with Flora Bowley. Flora is an amazing artist and paints from her heart/soul. I have her book and one day I will do her on-line Bloom True course. Click here to check out the Bloom True Boot Camp. Here is what Flora says about her  Bloom True Boot Camp-

‘My intention behind Bloom True Boot Camp is to support, guide, inspire and ultimately kick your creative habit into high gear — or at least get you moving in the right direction! This is the perfect way to gear up for the October session of my Bloom True E-Course, and if you’ve ever been curious about taking my online course, Bloom True Boot Camp will offer you a little taste of the Bloom True experience. For all you veteran Bloomers out there, I hope Boot Camp re-inspires you to continue on your blooming path…’

I am going to take part in both of these, as I feel September is going to be a creative month and I want to start some good habits again. The past 6 weeks I have not been writing and I have missed it. Even if I just a few sentences a day it will be better than what I have been doing. Yoga has also been lacking in my life, so that will come into play again. I am ready for the Boot Camp and Inspired Writing, join me and let’s get creative.

July photos – #printmakingunleashed

Here is a round-up of the #printmakingunleashed challenge I took part in last month. I managed to do 23 out of the 31 days. I tried new and rediscovered old techniques. I had a great time… Thank you Traci.

June Photos and a challenge #Bliss100

June Photos

Another month goes by, this year is going so fast….We are at the mid point of the year. I decided that the start of July is a good time to take stock and review the year. Think of all those things that you have achieved and the things that are still on the to-do list. Do they need to be on your list? This is a good time to take stock, shuffle things around and get shit done.

I have decided am going to take part in Makenna Johnston #Bliss100 challenge.  At first I thought about writing and doing yoga for the challenge but these are already part of my morning routine. So thinking about it now I am going to do some of the things that I have started and have yet to finish…So I won’t be starting another project I will be finishing off a tonne of cool stuff that I started and have yet to finish! This includes –

It seems a lot to do but 100 days is a fair bit of time, right? One thing a day from the list above and a bit of movement thrown in for good measure equals #bliss100.

I’m in for the #bliss100!  100 days dedicated to mindful project ass-kicking & life adjusting. Join me!  visit Makenna Johnston to find out more.
